Geothermal lithium and sustainable battery production in the EU
Welcome to this webinar organised by the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC)
Lithium-ion batteries are vital to accelerating the decarbonisation of transport and better integrating variable renewable energies into electricity grids.
The EU’s import dependency on raw materials such as lithium combined with concerns over the life-cycle impact of lithium extraction and processing could dampen investment along the full battery value-chain.
Geothermal lithium provides the EU with vast and sustainable quantities of this essential raw material. The expert panel will discuss this the European Commission’s Sustainable Batteries proposal.
