Raw Material Week Side Session
Welcome to our side event organised during the Raw Material Week on the topic “The missing middle: Why midstream materials hold the key to Europe’s circular and resilient Battery value chain” on Nov 19th, 08:30-10:00 CET
At Raw Materials Week, the European Battery Alliance is hosting a side session in Brussels to spotlight the often-overlooked midstream of the battery value chain: the critical stage that refines and processes raw materials into pCAM, CAM, and anode materials for cell manufacturing.
As Europe ramps up gigafactory construction, midstream capacity remains far behind projected demand. By 2030 and 2035, European production will cover only a fraction of what EU cell makers need. Without sufficient midstream capacity, extraction and refining projects face limited local off-take, pushing valuable materials abroad for processing and weakening a European value chain.
A strong midstream is essential to anchor upstream investments in mining and refining, but also to enable circularity, ensuring that recycled materials can re-enter European production.
This session brings together industry, sector experts and policymakers to explore solutions for closing the midstream gap to build a resilient, circular, and competitive battery value chain.
Participation is free of charge but registration is required. To secure your spot, click on the button below and fill in the registration form.
