5th High-Level Ministerial Meeting of the European Battery Alliance

Today marks the 5th ministerial meeting of the European Battery Alliance. As a follow up of the high-level meeting with industrial key stakeholders representing all segments of battery the battery value chain, the Commission hosted today a ministerial meeting, chaired Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič. The meeting was attended by Commissioners Thierry Breton, Nicolas Schmitt and Elisa Ferreira, Vice Presidents Ambroise Fayolle and Thomas Östros from the European Investment Bank together with Ministers and State Secretaries from 14 European Members States.

All participants reconfirmed their full commitment to the European Battery Alliance in view of establishing an innovative, competitive, sustainable and resilient battery value chain in Europe and recognised the excellent progress made under the European Battery Alliance, with the strong dynamism of the industrial stream EBA250 driven by EIT InnoEnergy.

The enormous progress achieved in developing a European battery industry was acknowledged – but now more efforts are needed to close remaining gaps in the value chain. Especially two topics have been highlighted in the discussion: how to develop a more resilient and integrated supply chain for (primary and secondary) raw materials and how to urgently bolster re-/up-skilling efforts to address the skills gap in the EU labour market.
