Towards a fully integrated supply chain in Europe
Access to sustainable raw materials is not only an important cornerstone in building a European battery value chain. It is also a strategic security question for Europe’s ambition to deliver the Green Deal.
Lithium has been identified by the European Commission as a vital supply that needs to be produced domestically. While China currently produces almost 80% of lithium hydroxide, Europe evolves towards becoming the second largest consumer of this product. Thus it is still still being 100% reliant on imports.
Infinity Lithium is the first lithium project to secure European funding as part of a multi-level investment agreement with EIT InnoEnergy. This marks an essential step towards a self-sufficient lithium-ion battery supply chain in Europe.
Learn more on this in the Proactive video where Vincent Ledoux Pedailles, Executive Director Corporate Strategy at Infinity Lithium, and Thore Sekkenes, EBA250 Programme Director at EIT InnoEnergy comment on the strategic role of lithium for the European battery industry.
