EUSEW – Batteries Powering a Greener and Prosperous Future

Welcome to the online event Batteries Powering a Greener and Prosperous Future: economic, societal and environmental impacts organised as part of the extended programme of the European Sustainable Energy Week.

The utilisation of battery technology has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions globally by 30% by 2030, in addition to greatly reducing particulate and other harmful emissions, providing a healthier ecosystem for both our people and the natural world. Developing the battery industry in Europe can support the creation of 800,000 jobs by 2025 (and up to 1,2 million by 2030) directly engaged in the battery value chain, while supporting the circular economy approach.

For the European battery industry to thrive competitively while engraining the circular economy approach, an acceleration in investments, research and development, education and training is essential. This session will discuss how Europe can achieve this and illustrate the benefits it will bring from an economic, societal and environmental perspective.

Speakers:

  • Simon Perraud, Deputy Director, CEA-Liten
  • Bo Normark, Industrial Strategy Executive, EIT InnoEnergy
  • Edel Sheridan, Senior Business Developer, SINTEF
  • Michael Lippert, Director of Innovation and Solutions for Energy, Saft
  • Kristina Edstrom, Professor, Uppsala University
