Welcome to the French-Swedish conference on batteries and E-mobility arranged by the French Embassy and KTH Royal Institute of Technology on 30 November 2018.

Implementing the French-Swedish partnership for innovation and green solutions

The theme “green transportation” is a key pillar in implementing the French-Swedish partnership for innovation and green solutions signed by President E. Macron and PM S. Löfven in Göteborg in November 2017. The transport sector accounts today as the largest emitter of CO2 emissions in France and in Sweden, encouraging both countries in taking ambitious steps to cut CO2 emissions. France announced a ban on sales of greenhouse gas-emitting vehicles by 2040 and Sweden introduced the target of a national vehicle fleet independent of fossil fuel by 2030.

In this light, both countries have been highly committed to develop the battery production in Europe and provided early support to the European Battery Alliance (EBA) launched in October 2017 by Commissioner M. Šefčovič.

The conference is structured around three round tables, besides opening keynote speeches:

• • Why push for a European battery production? The strategic role of a competitive and sustainable European battery production.
  • Batteries, the new industrial revolution: how to jump on board?
  • What’s next? An overview of leading-edge research on batteries
